Katharine Bonasera was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Katharine currently serves as Principal of Allenbrook Elementary, an elementary school in Project LIFT. Project LIFT is a public-private partnership established to close the achievement gap in the West Charlotte corridor.
Katharine moved to Charlotte to teach at Shamrock Gardens Elementary. During this time she served as Learning Team Leader and Corps Member Advisor with Teach For America working to support beginning teachers. She joined New Leaders to pursue school administration in Charlotte’s highest need schools. She was placed as Resident Principal at Hickory Grove Elementary in east Charlotte. Following the one year residency she was asked to remain at Hickory Grove as Assistant Principal.
In her role, Katharine serves the students, staff, and families of Hickory Grove in her work with balanced literacy, community engagement, and school culture. She remains active in the New Leaders community. Katharine lives in NoDa with her husband Joel and three-year-old son Quin.
